La Paz, Bolivia (September, 2017)

From Uyuni, Bolivia, we jumped on a plane to La Paz, Bolivia. We flew a local Bolivian airline called Amaszonas. We payed $86 each for the quick flight ($516 total). La Paz is a city Cody visited with his friend Matt a year earlier to celebrate Matt's 40th birthday. There is a lot of quirky and fun things to do in La Paz.

One of the things we did was rappelling down the side of the Hotel Presidente while dressed up in funny costumes. Cody and Eliza both did the rappel...Cody did it twice. Cody dressed up as a bumblebee and Eliza dressed up as superwoman. Ryder wanted so bad to do it, but they wouldn't let him for height

We also visited the witches markets where they sell baby llama carcasses, all kinds of potions and spices, skulls, and other magical and superstitious objects and items. It was a bit freaky, but definitely interesting to hear about the weird superstitions and beliefs they had. People would buy llama carcasses for luck and bury them outside their house when they built new edifices on their property believing that it would bring them luck and prosperity.

We spent some time exploring the city. It is quite a chore to walk up and down the steep hills at this high elevation city. We often found ourselves exhausted and in need of a break after walking only a couple streets. We found a cool escape room on the other side of town and did a couple rooms together as a family and found a fun and elaborately decorated Mexican restaurant and had lunch there. As we do in most of the Latin American cities we visit, we had to search for Bolivian soccer jerseys for the kids.
