We had an 8 hour layover in Bangkok on our way home from Japan and we took advantage of this by hopping on the train from Bangkok International Airport and getting into the city to go to a Muay Thai fight. The fights are just about every day and they last from about 6pm to 10pm. There are 2 main Muay Thai boxing stadiums in Bangkok (Lumpinee and Rajadamnern). On the day we were there, the fight was happening at Lumpini stadium. We paid 2,500 Baht each for our tickets, which were on the front row. They reserve the front couple rows for the tourists and they charge us a lot more than the locals that pay 540 Baht each to see the fights.

We grabbed a taxi and the driver had an extremely hard time finding the place. We were struggling with English/Thai translation and the traffic was terrible, but we finally made it to the fights. We watched a bunch of Thai dudes pummel each other with some Buddhist prayers in between. The costumes were elaborate, the Thai men packed the stadium and were betting on all the fights. We were on the front row and had great views of everything that was happening. Overall, this was a great experience and a lot of fun. We took off after about 5 fights (there were 10 total) since we had to get back to the airport and catch our flight back to Perth.
